Missile grounded

The Missile's time has run out for now. Enter Jayson Nix.

The Missile's time has run out for now. Enter Jayson Nix.

Ozzie Guillen sent the message on Tuesday, and on Wednesday Alexei Ramirez became the first casualty.
With Jayson Nix giving himself a chance at the plate these days and Ramirez looking completely lost with a bat in his hand, the White Sox manager made his first significant lineup change, starting Nix at short.
When asked if it was just a rest for Ramirez – aka “The Cuban Missile’’ – Guillen was adamant in pointing out it wasn’t.
“It’s not a rest, it’s not a rest,’’ Guillen said. “I always tell my players give yourself a chance, get good at-bats, but when you see one at-bat after another, after another, after another, and no results, no adjustments – we talked to Alexei a few times, I don’t mind 0-for-4, I don’t mind struggle, I don’t mind a slump. But how you are in that slump, do something about it. I need some offense, and that’s why I’m going to put Nix out there.’’
Guillen was then asked if it was short-term, and couldn’t give an answer. It would seem that Ramirez and Nix will supply him with that answer in the next few games.
“I’m not going to say he’s in the doghouse, I’m not going to say I’m punishing him for that, but I want to let people know, not just him, we have to play as a team and we have to see people on the field that can help us,’’ Guillen added.

im glad nix is getting a shot. he at least gives them a chance when hes in the box, unlike alexei. maybe this will have the same effect as last year, with alexei getting hot with the weather. GO SOX

What’s really troubling, Joe, about Alexei Ramirez isn’t just being in a sophomore slump. I absolutely agree with you that Alexei’s sulking & poor play at the plate have come with him to what’s supposed to be his more natural position of shortstop this season. Benching Alexei is just the beginning in my opinion, and I hope White Sox fans get accustomed to seeing Jayson Nix on this roster. As long as Nix stays healthy and continues to provide solid hitting & defense, Brent Lillibridge may be staring at a bus ticket to Triple “A” Charlotte once Brian Anderson is healthy enough from his oblique injury to play again.

When Ozzie eventually decides to put Ramirez back in the lineup, I say try Nix in center for a few starts and see how he does. I really think we need to see what this guy can do for a good two too three weeks.
