B&B Wednesday
As Brett Favre considers un-retiring to the Vikings, consider something. Sure, the argument of “he’s better than what they have now” appears true at first blush, but it may not withstand further investigation. Minnesota has a rock-solid defensive line, one of the NFL’s best running backs, and now a special-teams threat in Percy Harvin. Even if one concedes that Favre is “better” than Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson, why would they want such a high-risk passer flinging balls around the dome as he indulges some quixotic revenge fantasy? Favre’s style doesn’t fit what should be the Vikings’ plan. A team that stout doesn’t need turnovers and clock stoppages on incomplete passes.
Very frustrating night for White Sox fans, as they suffered through a maddening parade of walks and missed scoring chances. Good teams do not play like that. They can’t lose the ones where they hit homers. They are home tonight to face the Tigers and Armando Galarraga, who dazzled when last we saw him.
Cubs in Houston for two, looking to get well against Mike Hampton and Russ Ortiz. Keep an eye on Rich Harden’s velocity tonight, as it was down the last time out. Is anybody else a little concerned that Carlos Zambrano’s time on the DL will allow his conditioning to slip further? The Cubs have tried to make him aware of the importance of shedding some of the belly-fat — particularly as he ages — but have not been met with much of an apparent response.
From the Trib: “The Blackhawks took a charter flight from Vancouver to Chicago after Saturday night’s Game 2 victory, but they just as easily could have ridden their momentum home.” Here’s Dave Bolland: “Taking this momentum now and bringing it into our rink is huge for us.” Will it ever end? Why must professional writers and commentators (I don’t begrudge players — most of them are dim) believe in the equivalent of the Easter Bunny?
We have the Second Half at 4:00 today and Terry’s Roar of the Day at 5:00.
Friday, join us at the Lamplighter in Palatine for the Bud Light “Who Needs Two?” Tavern Tour. We have a bunch of Cubs tickets to give away.

Why must professional writers and commentators (I don’t begrudge players — most of them are dim) believe in the equivalent of the Easter Bunny?
Hell, I thought most sports writers DID believe in the Easter Bunny. I know Telander does.

Brett Favre? Three words, perhaps two: Ottawa Rough Riders. Go. Prosper. But disappear.

what gets me is the consistent overrating of Bernard Berrian. The guy has been knocking on 1000 yards 3 times and can’t get the door open. He has 2 routes that he runs well, deep post and fly pattern. Farves favorite route to throw is the skinny post, dig and slant. i don’t know if Berrian can be physical enough to get loose on a skinny, isn’t a good enough route runner for the dig and is way too small to run all the slants that favre will make him run. Plus the ultimate question still remains, CAN FAVRE PASS A PHYSICAL? before this latest return from a retirement he has never fulfilled even a half a year, all we heard was whether or not Favre needed surgury. Well how will his arm hold up to a complete training camp, preseason, 16 games, 2 to 3 playoff games and perhaps a superbowl. that’s a lot of throwing for a guy with that much of a bum arm.
asparagus
brett favre is like the easter bunny, he makes a return trip at the same time every year with a basketfull of c.r.ap
Stop! Hafner Time!
Dan,
Believing in momentum from game to game isn’t a hockey specific phenomenon. It’s not even specific to sports alone; do you remember the coverage of the political primaries last year?
The Hawks didn’t lose this game because of lack of momentum, just like Hillary Clinton didn’t lose the nomination because she didn’t have momentum coming out of Iowa.
I’ve said it before, if you don’t want to talk hockey, don’t. You don’t have to. As you’ve made clear over and over again, people in Chicago don’t care about hockey. That’s fine and mostly true. As someone in Chicago who does care about hockey, I’m not offended in the least. Let those who are smart enough to get their hockey information elsewhere, get it elsewhere, and stick to talking about things you know and care about.
When you talk baseball or basketball, I feel I can listen and learn something. When you try to bait the stupid with nonsensical hockey talk, I change the station.

WOW, dan bernstein has met a challenger who can frame an argument better than bernstein can!!! NICELY STATED!!!

Does Brett Farve bring the vikings closer to winning a super bowl yes he
does so Bernstein shut up. All i ever here from you does this bring us any
closer to a championship we all know you hate Farve, you are the biggest
hypocrite Bernstein anything you say now has no merit you are joke Bernstein
2nd Half Adjustments
Radz, I’m not so sure he does bring them closer to winning a championship (in fact, I’m sure he doesn’t) if he’s only coming back to extract revenge on the Packers and given what his performance was for NY at the end of the season. He’s got 14 years of pounding on his body, and there’s no way, no matter how much he may want to, that he can still compete. I’m not getting on you for ragging on Bernstein, but I disagree that he brings them closer to a championship. He’s, at best, the 3rd best QB in the division, and you know he’s going to miss time to injury, so how does he get them closer?
asparagus
HEY, give radz credit for actually posting a sports related comment, and if favre was 4 years younger and healthier, his talent would certainly be enough to put the vikings over the top. but he isn’t 4 years younger and he isn’t healthy, so i am afraid it will have to come down to sage or tavaris at the end of it all
radz
All the Bernstein *** kissers are out, Hey blue tooth be a man and
come out we all know you hiding behind asparagus
2nd Half Adjustments
Wait, what did I say? I’m all for getting on Bersie’s ***, but I just disagree that Farve gets the Vikings closer to a championship.

Often when athletes talk about momentum, they mean the same thing as feeling good about their play, being in good rhythm, having this little extra confidence that when you see the same opponent again in a few days, you can keep doing what you’ve been doing and win again; and the other guys need to change something.
It’s but feeling fulfilled after a good day at work, with a pinch of superstition.
And if you win two in a row, your confidence grows, and you opponents diminishes. So when you talk about riding momentum, you are acknowledging the importance of having the “killer instinct”: finding extra focus to close the series, and not letting your opponent to regain confidence.

Gotta hand it to the Canucks. I heard Luongo called out Dimitra (though i dont have a quote) in regards to not playing with a injury. Big game ya know. Then his teammates respond. Thats a captain. Wonder if someday Uncle Milton will get that kind of kick in the pants. To the sports media all over the nation, and i cant get this type large enough.. IGNORE BRETT FAVRE!!! HE IS USING YOU AND YOU LIKE BUNCH FOOLS PLAY INTO IT. STOP TALKING ABOUT HIM AND HE MAY GO AWAY.. Aspaargus. Nice. True. But DB doesn’t like minds that may stronger than his. Oh and Dan. about Rowand. .. Ya cant help but laugh that the SF Giants are getting what they deserved. They rode the Barry cash cow train probably knowing full well what went, or was going on. Zito,Rowand, aaaah there is justice sometimes.

ok, now that it looks like my imposter has bolted, primarily because admin has deleted all his comments, i will go back to my old name
and radz, yesterday, i SLAMMED bernstein. and i just question favre’s durability givin his arm troubles at the end of last year and that he was straddling the line between rehab and surgury, my understanding is that he could live a healthy life with just rehad but would need surgury in order to play again. Maybe he achieved a miracle and can play with just rehab, but those who take that chance usually don’t last long, especially with arm muscles. so givin that, it would be hard to picture favre leading any nfl team to the championship

The ghost of Tommie Williams
I could’ve sworn there was artificial turf, a white roof and those real ugly sightlines in the Sox game. That game reminded me of a typical game in the Metrodome. The Royals are a scrappy group and if the Sox don’t win the division I hope KC does. I love the way they play too, with the knockdown pitches, and trying to lay down bunts for hits etc. I’m really surprised Ozzie hasn’t retaliated either with them. I don’t mean throw at a guy’s head or hurt them, just a nice 90 mph fastball on the arse or side. I wish the Sox would’ve been able to somehow trade for Coco Crisp, would’ve solved the leadoff and CF problem all in one move. Gavin Floyd needs to get this turned around quick too. Right now we already have two guys that are bullpen eaters. Contreras can’t even make it 5, Colon when he is good can go 6.
Matt Abbatacola’s blue tooth (formerly Sore Throat)
ghosts, trading for crisp? that would have been too easy and an insult to the guys they already had.
as john madden once said, when you have a lot of one thing, you have nothing

Kenny could’ve gotten Crisp easily. KC only traded 1 reliever (Ramon Ramirez) to get him. The Sox didn’t want to pay his measly salary and their worthless talent evalulators in the minors kept telling KW that Owens was going to be great. That team is going nowhere this season. Even if they do happen to somehow win this crappy division….so what? What are they going to do against the good teams in the AL? Same as last year. Maybe win one game by hitting a couple of HR’s. I hope I’m wrong.

In almost every sport there are situation specialists. Closers in baseball, three point shooters in basketball. Football even has 3rd down pass rushers and special package receivers and change of pace RBs. QB’s shouldn’t be an exception. Why don’t teams draft or sign QBs as situation specialists, play them as such, and possibly pay them as such. If you know a QB is better in the 2 minute drill or coming back from a defecit, he should be your 2 minute or down-the-field QB. If a player excels as “managing the game” he shuold be your QB when short conservative/opportunistic passing is necessary. Could Favre in Minnesota be that situational gQB at his age and have Rosenfels as your game manager? There are only so many top tier QBs in the NFL at a given time. Doing so should bring down the market on a player if he’s only a 2 minute QB or only a game manager type of player. It would also maximize the players potential at that given time by playing him when the game situation fits his strengths. At least players will get reps with the 1st string doing what they’re good at doing, versus being a backup, taking backup reps, and coming in cold off the bench.

i don’t think that would work, qb’s and recievers are way to dependant on timing and coheasion to have guys rotate in and out of games.

To above posts….you lose all credibility when you throw Mike North in your argument!

The above post got deleted, but I have to agree. The Score’s programming line-up does suck. I enjoy B & B and that’s about it. And these blogs are getting just as boring as the shows. The Murph blog used to be funny, but the admin ruined that. Now the B & B blog is lame. All day long nothing but boring posts by that lame bore Bluetooth. Get some balls and make this station and blogs fun again.

Speaking on jeff samardzija….it was Murph that said it was ok to think you can classify this guy as a future hall of famer. It was the most ridiculous comment ever. This was after a handful of innings pitched.
Chief BearSocks
Thank You God! It looks like He is going to have mercy on us and rain this Sox game out. I don’t think I can take another night of this garbage.

Imagine a lineup at the Score of all ex Score guys…
Jiggetts
North
McNiel
Buffone
Offman
Rogers
Hood
Grobstein
That would make for a quality lineup!

Good Morning:
It’s been a bad couple of weeks for Derrick Rose. We have to talk about it.
Who else knew that Curtis Granderson was going to tie the game last night? But the Sox use fundamentals to come through and win.
Another Geoff Blum 1-run loss for the Cubs. Now the Cubs and Sox need each other [...]

WYC is Back!
After missing a week due to Sox baseball, our signature segment returns at 5:00 this afternoon. Make sure to join us for the (usually) weekly comeuppance for hypocrisy and lies.
Speaking of which, this is from the Daily Herald on January 29th, after the Cubs signed outfielder Xavier Nady: “The Cubs insist Nady will be ready [...]

Take the stick out of the meatball beehive of hockey momentum, Bernsie. And before anyone can try and roast me, yea I took that from Bernsie himself. Should bra good pitching matchup tonight though for the Sox, I believe it’s Buerhle, so it’ll be a ground ball battle. No more Lance Broadway, Ozzie. Please.
