My Week at The Score
Week of June 1-June 7
My name is Natalie Paulo. I am going into my senior year at the University of Kentucky and I am very excited to be back in Chicago for the summer working as a Score intern! It is such an exciting time to be apart of a Sports Radio Station in such a great city and I feel privileged to be here. This week was my first week in the office. Things were very busy as we are preparing for the Pepsi Max Score Search. This is a search to find Chicago’s next sports reporter. We will be hosting auditions at different locations throughout the Chicago-land area to find someone to fill the position for a year.
My day in the office usually begins with adding listeners to our database and updating our Score facebook page. I then worked with the promotions team to put those that have registered to audition for the Pepsi Max Score Search into specific locations and audition times that were most convenient for them. I also sent out prizes and mailings that needed to be sent to our listeners.
I attended my first Pepsi Max Score Search at Mullens in Lisle and the turn-out was great! I am getting to meet a lot of great people here at the station. I worked the Bud Light Who Needs Two Live Broadcast with Boers and Bernstein and it was very cool to have a “behind the scenes” experience of what makes a broadcast successful. We also received an official tour of U.S. Cellular Field. We got to see every broadcast room, the owner’s suite and Paul Konerko’s skybox. The Jim Beam Club was definitely worth seeing because of the gorgeous view! In between the Score Searches and broadcasts I was given free White Sox tickets to attend a game and I had to remind myself how lucky I was to be able to do something like that and still be considered working.
June 8-14
My second week as a Score intern was definitely different than the last. Things are always interesting around here with different things to do each day. This week in the office we continued to prepare for the Pepsi Max Score Search. I definitely got to meet some interesting people at the Score searches I attended this week. It is amazing to see how many people’s bravery and ego increases after a few beers. Due to the diverse crowd we get at these events, sitting at a promo table and checking people in for auditions becomes a whole lot more exciting. I also got to work with Steve McMichael this week at a Score Search in Countryside. He was hilarious and kept all of us entertained for the whole 2 hours we were there. The weekends are always filled with events. I attended my first Coop at the Cork with Don Cooper and Chris Rongey. The producer had to practically hold back a couple of ladies that would not leave Rongey and Cooper alone. Stay tuned for more of my adventures as a Score intern!
