Turner & Cutler Developing Trust
It was Sade who once sang, “It’s about faith…It’s about trust”. It seems that theme is growing when it comes to the Bears Offense. Ron Turner and Jay Cutler are bonding over making the right decisions.
Here’s the situation: Bears come out of the 2:00 Warning with a 4th & goal from the 1. Turner gave Cutler an option on the play to run for the TD or pass. Cutler made the call, to pass. He got blitzed and found Greg Olsen in the endzone for a TD and cut the Seattle lead to 6 points before the half.
It means something that in only 3 games, Turner is confident in Cutler’s ability to diagnose plays.
“He tries to get me involved as much as possible, which I appreciate.” Cutler said.
I followed up and asked how important that is to the relationship between QB and signal caller.
“He’s gotta trust me and I’ve gotta trust him to put us in the right situations and give us the right calls.” Cutler explained. “It’s give and take.”
It’s hard for some coaches to hand over control to the players. It’s a trust issue. Olsen is happy to see the coaching staff listen to what players are seeing on the field.
“Often the guy who’s out there in the heat of the moment in the battle has a good feel for what’s gonna work.” Olsen told me. “I think that was the case and they all made a great decision on the play to get the touchdown.”
It let’s you know how much Cutler’s knowledge of the Offense and his awareness of the moment is respected by his Offensive Coordinator. That’s big as this Offense continues to mature.

BIG TIME SUCKER(formly MABT)
George Oscar Bluth
I think Turner, though criticized (at times, rightly), is a good OC. He and Cutler have something going on between their ears, which puts us light years ahead of where this team’s been in past years and under prior regimes.

Opening with the Sade refrence… that’s gold Holmes.
Cutler’s cares about winning. Period. He handled the press well after week 1, in my opinion. I didn’t see a guy that didn’t care. I saw a guy who was disappointed in his play. And instead of getting all “Tim Tebow” at the podium, just decided to take care of business on the field.
Its important that Turner trust Cutler to make those calls. Olsen was wide open, and honestly, when I saw Jay roll out instead of hand-off, I panicked. But it was executed well and was the right call.

Well, we will see. SInce we really haven’t had anyone in the QB position for so long maybe Turner is coming around? When you have leaders and professionals in jobs they MUST be handled differently than the “generic” employee. That works well for them, management and us as fans. Some of these players don’t want anything to do with leadership. They want be the well paid “drone”. I myself respect and appreciate players that let it all hang out and if they are given a little more in the decision making they perform. Some guys are not drones and cannot exist that way. A good leader delegates authority properly. Maybe it worked for that play but I want to see more in the running game! The problem with football is that it is too much like politics. Pecking orders prevail. There are new formations all the time but that does not mean that the “old” ones are bad. Lest we forget that the QB’s of the past called “all” of their plays. If Turner wants to be a brain surgeon then he better learn fast what he has on the field not what he wants or used to have!

ONE THING cutler doesn’t get enough credit for is his ability to communicate. i mean check it out. Donald Royal was an afterthought until cutler fought for him. Same with Brandon Marshall. Same with knox, bennett, hester. The one common demoninator is they all beam about how Cutler guides them into positions in meeting rooms, classrooms, practice and whatnot. Cutler also places expectations on them. so cutler is drab, monotone, and may sound a bit arrogant in a news conference. i don’t care, i hear about what is said about him by players after practices and games, and that to me holds a TON of stock as to what kind of leader he is.
