Bye Week Blues

It wasn’t unitl this morning, that the quiet of the Bye Weeks set in for me.  After 6 weeks of camp and 4 weeks of games, my routine was pretty set.  Now my NFL life gets unbalanced for 2 weeks.  Here’s the good and the bad of it.

The Good:  From a team perspective, the bye comes at a great time.  The Bears have tons of injuries.  Lovie Smith was dead on when he talked about how ideally, you would want the bye in the middle of the season, but for the Bears it seems to always fall when they need a break.  The injury list if pretty long:  Devin Hester, Adrian Peterson, Johnny Knox, Hunter Hillenmeyer, Pisa Tinoisamoa and now Israel Idonije.  Most of these guys are gonna be back for the Atltanta game, but if there were a game Sunday almost all of them wouldn’t be available.  Idonije is probably shelved until the game at Cincinatti after getting his knee scoped.

With the Bears 3-1, it’s a good time for a Bears fan to look around and see what else is out there.  Having the Vikings/Packers game on primetime is an excellent diversion and allows you to see the competition.

You can pay attention to the rest of the league without emotion.  In fact, we can focus on all of our fantasy teams without worrying about potential conflicts with our “players” going up against the Bears and then having your loyalty divided between being a “Fantasy Superstar” and wanting the Bears to do well.

The Bad:  Tom Petty once wrote:  “The waiting is the hardest part…”  Having a Sunday away from the Bears when your team is 3-1 and has won 3 in a row is tough.  Some fans are just starting to come around to how good Jay Cutler is and having to wait 2 weeks to see him again sucks.

For the Bears, I always worry about Bye Week practices.  They’re glorified walk-throughs.  The players minds are already gone to whatever it is they’re going to do this weekend.  The practices themselves will be like Training Camp workouts where the Bears aren’t really working on an opponent, just fine-tuning what they’re doing.  I don’t want the boys bodies battered in practice, but can they maximize fixing their own issues with 2 short practices?

Then of course there’s a Bye Week hangover.  Sunday will be great!  I’m gonna kick back and watch the NFL, but Monday is gonna suck.  We’re gonna be like hungry tigers salavating for Bears football…

To a certain extent, LoHo, the bye week does give Bear fans a chance to watch other teams within the NFC North and scout them a little further. I don’t know if Bear fans really want to watch the Lions host the Super Bowl Champion Steelers on CBS2 with the venerable **** Enberg & Dan Fouts calling the action at 12Noon or watching Brett Favre and the Vikings carve the Rams’ defense like a Thanksgiving turkey apart down in St. Louis on FOX32 with Chris Myers & Charles Davis calling the action down at the Edward Jones Dome. At the same time, it will feel longer than that when you consider the next time Jay Cutler & the Bears take the field, it’ll be down in Atlanta on “NBC’s Sunday Night Football” October 18th.

Matt Millen sucks. Why is Matt Millen on ESPN’s payroll?

Why do so many stupid ex-players and coaches who add nothing to broadcasts get TV and radio jobs?

I used to hate the bye, but I’ve come to cope. It lets me schedule something on a sunday for once.

I’ll be watching Hester. Last time this guy was hurt and was basically ineffective for many weeks. I know it was freak injury but this guy does not play anywhere up to potential with any pain. He is one of those guys that needs to be around 100% or he loses his wild card. Last year it was the ribs, now its the neck. Both are painful but thats why they pay them. Hopefully he’ll be O.K. As a fan I do not like the bye week. I enjoy all the “leading up to talk”. But I am glad that these players have a little extra tme to heal

BTS if Monday is a holiday for you either you have a government job, or you live in Canada.

Hey has anyone got an idea of an online site where someone can watch Bears games? I have a friend in rural Mississippi who is not going to be able to watch a few Bears games this year because of Saints games being broadcast and they don’t have satalite. The closest place to watch the game is 35 miles but they do not carry anything but Saints games or Cowboy games for the most part. Any ideas?

I would probably go to either ChicagoBears.com or WBBM780.com, the Bears’ radio flagship station’s Web site if you want to follow Jay Cutler and the Bears online. I’m not so sure the NFL allows the Bears and WBBM Radio to stream the audio from Jeff Joniak, Tom Thayer & Zach Zaidman to your computer down there in Mississippi or anywhere else for that matter. It might have to do with NFL broadcast restrictions. I’m reasonably sure you can NOT listen to the online stream for White Sox games on 670thescore.com due to MLB restrictions. My other suggestion might be getting a Sirius Satellite Radio installed in your car. That way, you can get definitely get your Joniak, Thayer & Zaidman Bears/WBBM fix or any other NFL game broadcast no matter where you are. Before the merger with XM, Sirius is the satellite radio home for NFL games, and the “Danny Mac Show’s” own Jim Miller has a show weekly on there.

Kyle is 5-0 …. yes.

But, I think he’s playing with a horseshoe…. somewhere strategically placed.

I’ve watched him through the season – dink and dunk has been where it’s at. He hasn’t changed – except the cards have fallen perfectly for him.

Examples? Horrid against Cincy – tipped ball up in the air, goes for 6 to get a win in Cincy to start the year. Last week against the Cowboys, the TD to Brandon Marshall on a 10 yard pass, Marshall knocks over the defense like bowling pins (horrid). This past Sunday against the Pats…. dink and dunking all day long…. finally the game goes into OT and completes a pass to set up (dunk) the FG, except the play prior he throws a sure fire INT – but the ball is dropped.

It’s been a horseshoe year for Kyle, just not sure that continues for a full season.

No way the Bears are 3-1 with Kyle at QB for us, but I will say Im every bit confident saying the Broncos would be 5-0 with Jay at the helm if he was still in Denver.
