Thursday and “WYC?”

Terry is arriving a little late today, so I’ll be flying solo with you between transition at 2:00.  If the e-mail submissions are any indication, “Who You Crappin?” at 5:00 should be fun (truth be told, however, the correlative value of e-mailed submissions to on-air efforts is scientifically unestablished).

Thanks to all who continued to provide feedback on our youth-football-concussion topic long into the evening.  Very interesting — if sobering and enlightening — to hear so many personal stories of your own experiences with such things, whether you or your sons.  I hope the overcompensatory machismo of coach-culture can be overridden by information and awareness.

The annual survey of NBA general managers is out, is fascinating as always, and deserves some in-depth analysis.  The Bulls that appeared in their responses may surprise you.

The Second Half is at 3:30, and we will have a Bears report.  When the off week comes this early, it seems writers and reporters are scrambling for subject matter:  Knox-mania?  Cutler’s not a wimp?  Help.

Hawks at Red Wings for the first time this season, and something is confusing me.  When he was signed, Tomas Kopecky was called “Ko-PETZ-ky,”  and now he’s called “Ko-PECK-y.”  My sleep is precious, so this must be solved.

Why does Dave Van Dyck waste Trib space by asking Joe Torre and Tony LaRussa about their respective teams not being ”hot” going into the playoffs?  It is settled fact that it simply does not change their liklihood of winning the World Series.  Perpetuating primitive thinking under the idea of “conventional wisdom” is worthless.

why does Dave Van Dyck waste Trib space with every column he writes?

Why does any Trib writer do what they do?

David Haugh was awarded the top column in the sports section and I can’t think of a more average writer than, say, Mike Downey with opinions that seem so incredibly out of touch…

Dave Van Dyck seems to be thinking about how hot the Rockies were heading into the World Series and winning it all… wait, no… they were swept.

Ah… I’ve got it… Dave Van Dyck seems to be thinking about how hot the White Sox were at the end of the regular season when they won the World Series… wait, no… they limped into the playoffs in every way, shape, and form.

Hmmm… It must just be that Dave Van Dyck is just shiftless and lazy in terms of trying to come up with copy. Yeah, I’ll go with that.

Has anyone seen this week’s SI yet? In it theirs a poll asking NFL players who is the most-overrated player in the league. The usual responses follow. Favre, Romo etc.all offensive players. But interestingly the defensive player receiving the most votes was, ahem, Brian Urlacher. This poll was taken of 279 players from throughout the league, a pretty significant percentage actually. This is the 2nd time in his career he’s been given the designation as most overrrated. Are players in the league jealous, or have the media and fans in Chicago built him into something he is not and never has been?

Why does a world class city like Chicago have so many SECOND RATE and BELOW journalists, reporters and newcasters? Why don’t our so called newspeople ask better questions and good follwup questions?

nice tease dan, the only bulls mentioned in that whole gm survey was derrick rose for fastest with the ball, john salmons for best on the ball defender, does most with least, perimeter defender and tyrus thomas for most atheletic. not really much to brag about here.

flynn, i hate to say this, but two things, he is a bit overrated, i mean have the bears (wishing i could italicize here) really missed him? 2) he is white, which is why the media over hypes him and why his peers second guess him. but really, when was the last time he made a play that ray lewis makes on a regular basis?

flynn again, the press are basically now pr people. there is so much information control out there and people are really that much unwilling to devoluge rea answers that there is no point in being “real journalists” anymore. sad but true me thinks

Is Terry Boers late today because he stayed up too late last night admiring Bob Brenly’s mustache?

not a dumb fan….
Oct 8, 2009 13:08

Kenny Williams should be getting hammered by the sports media in this town. I watched that Twins/Yankees game yesterday and it was like a real major league team vs. a pony league team. Minnesota is awful. They lost their 2nd best hitter, their best starting pitcher (slowey), and their 3b all due to injuries yet still won that division over the Tigers and White Sox? Kenny and Ozzie deserve blame, but most of it should be put on Kenny. Winning 79 games in that HORRIFIC division, worst in professional sports, isn’t acceptable.

I thought there was going to be some shocking news about the GM Survey in relation to the Bulls. That 2 mins wasted that I’ll never get back. If there was a Bull recieving votes for MVP, defensive MVP, or Rookie of the Year….then THAT’S A STORY.

Answer
media executives in Chicago are the worst, look at the score Zimmer and Rosen, if they had a clue we wouldn’t have to listen to Boers and Bernstein.
