Not A “so-what” Win
The NFL is not College Football. The Bears don’t have to worry about the pollsters or computations. There is no BCS to complain about or campaign for. So, the Bears 30-6 win over the Browns should be looked at for what it’s worth: 1 win. No more, no less. If you’re trying to use it as a projection one where or the other, you’re just going to drive yourself crazy.
It was a needed win for the Bears. At 4-3, they keep themselves relevant for one more week. They stay in the hunt for the playoffs, while getting ready for a tough 3-game stretch. The next 3 games are against NFC foes that the Bears could be fighting against for the 2 wildcard spots. Sunday the Arizona Cardinals come to town. Then the Bears have a short week before they take on San Francisco’s tough Defense. After that, the Bears welcome the Eagles to Soldier Field and right now Philly is looking like one of the NFC’s best teams.
My notes from the game:
-Jay Cutler was hit too many times. The Bears O-Line let him get 9 times…or did they? It seemed that the Bears are aware of the protection issues and Cutler had more 7-step drops in this game then he has before. He has the arm strength to take deeper drops for shorter routes. Now, this could be his way of not taking the snap from Shotgun and still give himself time to protect himself. That being said, when the Defense blitzes more than you can block, the QB has to be accountable for some of the rushers. Cutler is holding the ball too long and is flat-footed in the pocket. That’s a recipe for getting popped.
-The LB switch worked. It bothered me that the Bears didn’t reinstate Hunter Hillenmeyer at the MLB spot last week. He’s better in that spot and Nick Roach is better at SLB. The two combined for 12 tackles and 2 forced fumbles.
-Danieal Manning had a great game! It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s Manning showing off his freakish athleticism to make a diving interception. In the last few weeks he’s looked more comfortable in his role as FS and NB. In the last 4 games, he’s had 24 tackles, broken up a few passes, had 2 forced fumbles and recovered a fumble.
It’s ok to not know what to make of the Bears after beating a horrible team. It’s ok to still be confused about what the Bears are after 7 games. The simple answer is that they’re 4-3 and still in the playoff discussion. Let the next 3 games be the litmus test. This was a stop the bleeding game and the Bears did their job.

Sorry for throwing this out here but I remember a conversation regarding the window of opportunity for the Bears to win a super bowl. I don’t know if it was 8 years or 20 years but the explaination seemed to make complete sence. This team is family owned and has no other source of income. This team is not like the Blackhawks or the newly sold Cubs who can fall back on “Family” money while they make moves and hope to break even or cash in with a championship. Sure every team has a cap but some are able to let big money walk in hopes to save the season but the Bears can’t. I personally think a “Players Coach” is not the right fit for this team because of the ownership situation. I think the team has the talent but either lost the passion for the game or are simply abusing the system under Lovie and his “Respect the Players” coaching style. I mean, It’s finally coming out that the players have never seen “Coach” upset at them. WHY THE HELL NOT??? The Bears are laughing it up after losses, laughing all the way to the bank! They know the McCaskeys cant hand them walking papers and It’s a damn shame. I think it would be worth the 8 million bucks to see Lovie get the axe next year and get a coach who shows some emotion on and off the field. Long contracts and extensions are killing this team and without a fire under thier a$$es it will never end. If I was guaranteed my paycheck I would for sure not do my job the best I can, I’m human for God sake. What makes them any different? Incentives? Getting re-signed? Please….thats why contract years are so outstanding for athletes, thats why d-bags like Milton Bradley keep their mouth shut till they reach their at bats they need for a bonus.
Kinda sucks that the Bears owners weren’t the founders of McDonalds or some **** or we would contend every year instead of every 8 or 20, still don’t remember the number…..seems pointless.

Skater, what the hill are you talking about? What games were you watching that told you “I think the team has the talent “? And what NFL coaches tell you that our coach’s problem is passion?
While I don’t disagree that this team has administrative problems, but coaching is hardly the biggest part of it. The biggest problem with this organization is that they couldn’t spot talent with a magnifying glass. It’s a miracle this team is 4-3 with no offensive line, a sorry excuse for a #1 TE and no WO’s that can realistically be considered higher than a #3. The reason they have none of these is because they haven’t been able to draft worth a ****.

Was this the most impressive Bears performance of the season yesterday vs. the hapless Browns? Absolutely not, LoHo, and anyone who thinks it was is kidding themselves. Jay Cutler was far from sharp throwing the football, and his offensive line continues to do a pisspoor job of protecting the team’s franchise investment. Even with Josh Beekman starting ahead of Frank Omilaye at left guard, Cutler was getting beat up like a rag doll. One more vicious hit at #6 yesterday and Caleb Hanie would’ve been pressed into service to finish the damn game! The only time I want to see Hanie in the lineup is only when the Bears have a big enough lead or if they’re trailing like they were in Cincinnati. This is getting absolutely ridiculous!

Should the Bears sign Chris Chambers? Does Chambers have anything left?

Did anyone see Popeye Jones mugshot? His face looks like he just got done Quarterbacking a game for the 2009 Bears.

Hey skater you ‘ve got some good perspective my friend, as far as I can see, isnt anybody dissn’ Walter and I’d have a hard time believeing that the man who really cared about all things right would put a game or himself above what soldier field is really about. If we all stop a minute, hard to do sometimes I know, just about every damn one of us know someone in our family, friends, someone else’s family who literally “Gave It All” that we can even have the discussion. I dont even pretend to know anything about Walters’ mindset, situation near his final days, but it seems to me that if he thought he “deserved a better shake”, with his fame and fortune he could have “pulled a few strings” to jump up the list in front of someone else not quite so fortunate financially or celebrity wise. Just goes to show what “Sweetness” was really all about. Nothin’ personl david, but your a DH and I dont mean designated hitter my friend.

Hey Laurence. Thanks for mentioning the Meagan Good/Megan Fox thing. I voted for the smokin hot Megan Good. Megan Fox looks good but shes too much of a Angelina Jolie wannabe.

Can we talk Cardinal VS Bears? I will yet once again claim that Matt Forte will have a good game. Matt is getting better and understanding where the ‘holes’ are that the O-line are attempting to create. Ron Turner could not coach his way out of a paper bag, but Cutler will overcome Ron Turner’s play calling deficiencies (where is the I before E rule?). Should be a tough match up for the Cardinals linebackers on Olsen and Clark.
I think the defense has its first solid game without blitzing. Warners lack of mobility will allow our D-Line to get a couple of coverage sacks. Scott Bowman is on the verge of having a big play game.
Cardinals 17
Bears 27
‘nough said!
Rabid Randy
you got that right Napoleon
Rabid Randy
Scott Bowman, Zack Bowman… whats the differance?
EdandOB
Hire Elizabeth Lambert to coach the Bears. She has the fire and the passion.

This Bears team looks like garbage as it has been said so many of times today there a lack of talent on this team. and with not having had a first this year and no first and second next year how many years will it take for this team to be a playoff contender again.

Is Jerry Angelo a worse GM then Jim Hendry?

Does anyone really care about the Payton statue? Heard M&H mention it and it’s just sad that this field was dedicated to Veterans who lost their lives in wars that gave us our freedom and somehow people want to forget that. They want to go against a rule set up by the family who gave the land up to the city. I know Walter was the best player to ever grace the gridiron but come on…Is nothing sacred? Have the people of the United States removed themselves this far from what really matters? I know it’s not the end of the world but it is a small statement that sports play a bigger role in our lives then the men and women who gave up their lives so we can have such freedoms.
