Bears Rattled, Again

For the second time in three games, the Bears were embarrassed.  This time it was a 41-21 loss to Arizona.  What makes this loss sting even more is that it was a against a team that was as lost as the Bears are and because the defeat came at home. The Bengals look like one of the best teams in the AFC, so it may explain the 45-10 route, but the Cardinals???

Defensively, this loss followed the same pattern as the loss in Cinci-tucky.  The Bears tried to use a lot of Man Coverage against an elite Wideout and it backfired.  It seemed pretty clear to me that Larry Fitzgerald watched the Ochocinco tape and knew that Charles Tillman could be had on double moves.  Like in the Bengals game, the Bears surrendered scores on every drive of the first half.  The statistical breakdown was frightening.

In the first half on Sunday, the Cardinals picked up 21 first downs.  Kurt Warner and the crew connected on every third down play (6-for-6).  The Cardinals, who came into the game ranked 32nd rushing the ball, ran for  131 yards, just in the half.  Everytime the Cardinals reached the red zone, in the first half, they converted (4-for4, all touchdowns).  All this with their average drive starting at their own 28.  They had drives of 81, 74, 70 and 86 yards.

The Bears tried different things, but none of them worked.  They tried Man Coverage and got torched.  They tried blitzing and got abused by a veteran Quarterback.  The Bears didn’t succeed in any of their blitzing because the Cardinals did a great job of sliding protection to the blitz side and Warner chewed them up by hitting hot reads.  The Cardinals didn’t punt until the 5:38 mark in the 3rd quarter.

Even Special Teams let the Bears down.  It was pretty clear that the Cardinals wanted the ball out of the Bears returners hands, they short kicked it and came close to picking up turnovers.

Offensively, the Bears did some nice things, but it’s hard to be excited about Greg Olsen’s break out game after a whoopin’ like this.

Two times, in the last three weeks, Lovie Smith has had a bad plan of attack.  Opponents have known what the Bears are going to do and have exploited them on every level.

Ken Wisenhunt gave the Bears life with the boneheaded move of putting Matt Leinart into the game.  The Bears quickly turned a takeaway into points and had the Cardinals pinned in the endzone.  It’s 3rd & 25 and the Bears give up 24 yards.  It totally change the field position and Cardinals Punter, Ben Graham, buried the Bears inside their own 20.

It’s another loss against an NFC opponent.  As you look around the conference, there are 3 teams in the NFC East with at least 5 wins.    The NFC South has two tough teams.  New Orleans is still undefeated and Atlanta has 5 wins now.  Green Bay is 4-4, but as of now, like Atlanta, they own a tie-breaker over the Bears.  Add Arizona to that tie-breaker advantage list.  The path for the Bears making the playoffs is getting more difficult to find.

Lovie Smith is trying to take solace that this is a short week, but going out west on 2 days rest is not easy.  Since the “trust me” statement,  Smith is 20-20.  After two blowouts in three weeks, he should be very nervous about his coaching future, regardless of the money left on his deal.

Please explain why the bears can get to pressure with the blitz, and other teams, ie the eagles, cowboys, chargers can do it and still cover receivers

Is it not ridiculous to discuss what the BEARS need to do to win without talking more, much more about Angelo’s abysmal draft history? Why even bother discussing the BEARS with their inferior talent thanks to this poor excuse for a GM that’s responsible for putting them in the position they’re in with his bizarre selections? Does anybody remember top (1st or 2nd round) picks like: Dan Bazuin, Michael Haynes, or Roe Williams? There’s nobody left from some of his **** drafts. Why don’t the SCORE guys talk more about this instead of giving Angelo a break on an issue that I would think should be important to most Chicago sports fans? I know he’s got a huge contract extension into infinity thanks to that other bum Ted Phillips, but BEAR fans still need to appreciate why we’ve got a team that can’t compete instead of trying to figure out how to put lipstick on a pig. STOP giving Angelo the free pass!

The Bears tried different things? I did not see one difference in the defense from the 1st quarter to the 4th. I saw wide oen receivers and I saw wide holes for runningbacks to go through. They are both lightwieght and blind. Why seven players on the Bears defense can’t guard 4 coming off the line is completely passed me. I don’t even see them react in the zones the scheme they play calls for. Are they waiting for permission to deny a pass to receiver? Don’t know but it sure looks like it. Maybe someone should inform them that the guys with the other color jerseys are who they’re supposed to be guarding.

And on offense I saw numerous times where the Bears receivers ran their routes right into the Cardinal defenders in the middle of the field.

It’s a football game not rocket science and I watch in disbelief hoping I wake up fro this nightmare that is Lovie street. But alas, we are back in Wandstat land

It seems like every game this year except for the Browns/Falcons the oppossing team has gone right down the field on their first series and scored. Are we not prepared or does every team know exactly how to attack this weak defense. I can’t figure out if its bad players, bad coaching or a combination of both. If the Bears lose the next couple games I hope we start playing Gaines Adams and Gilbert to see if they have any game
Bears defensive line is the worst in the NFL.

Dave, I doubt you’d see the young players play because if they did and they did play better than the starters today, then the coaching staff will think people will second guess them and this coaching staff would never let that happen. That’s why to a man these coaches are not men. They are unwilling to stand and admit any difficiencies in their game plans or schemes. That’s why I believe we don’t see adjustments in games; can’t admit a mistake or error.

When I did watch the game this weekend there was some positive points but the negative keeps coming into my head and for good reason. The Bears are a team known for their defensive power in games, this is true for the 2005 and 2006 season. In the seasons that I have mentioned I did notice when watching a game that their offense was inconsistent and barely moved the ball then the defense would take the field and score on takeaways (fumbles and interceptions). I am no football expert and do not plan to be I just like the game, then I look at this season for the Bears, Ulacher hurt, who is the defensive and team leader for the Chicago Bears. I did not think this would have a significant impact but look at some other teams where star defensive players were hurt and how the teams faired without that player. The offense is able to score and I do like Cutler, he is a gunslinger, trying to make something happen out of nothing, he is also accurate. Now he does not protect the ball like Orton but he does not have that much time in the pocket. There are some major problems that I see with the whole defense and offense that will take longer than a couple of days to fix, it may take a season. The receivers are rookies but on track to break a couple of records in the club and Forte is a great running back but it starts with the offensive line. If they can not block then it makes the team look bad on offense, then vice-versa on the defensive side of the ball.

Are youkiddingme? I’m a Bear fan and I’m mad as hell!

A class action law suit should be filed against the Chicago Bears for selling its customers/fans this sham. Refund everyone for the hats, the jackets, the seats, the big screen TV’s, everything that revolves around being a Bears fan.

Gee-*****:
In preseason, Bears GM did nothing when the second string running back was lost for the season. Stating that the 3rd and 4th string guys would get it done. Was the 4th string guy the last pick of the draft, 150 pounds and cheap! There is a big indication of why the Bears are a college team. One of the best running backs in the league is Turner from Atlanta. Remember him? He grew up in Chicago and wanted to return and play for the Bears. No, Bears backed out of that deal. They did not want a proven free agent, we wanted to stick with Benson, then cut him and go to an undersized back, Forte, because Lovie picked him. Then, listen to the Bear’s PR-BS on how great a pick he is while he is running well below league average.

Head-Case Coach:
Lovie? Everything about Lovie was clear when the high point of his Super Bowl was going head-to-head with his old friend and setting a NFL Record Books for being in the first Super Bowl to be coached by 2 black men. I did not hear, we are going to kick the Colts freaking’ tails back to Indy and win a Super Bowl. There should be no color line here. What would Mike Singletary say in a similar situation? That nice but let’s kill the Colts head coach and the whole team while we win the Super Bowl. Go Mike.

Did you like it when the Bear players were congratulating Cedric Benson during the Cincinnati game? Did he rob the Bears and all Bears fans? Lovie should have fined every player $100,000 each time they helped him up, patted him on the helmet or talked to him. No, Lovie is all about being the “Love,” a well loved coach and who is the players friend.

Then…I might get into it here (I went to U of I)….then, there is Turner. That blank-blank ruined U of I Football program. When U of I finally dumped his sorry behind, the Bears welcomed him back with open arms. Are youkiddingme? They said, “he knows our system.” What system, the loosing system? He was cheap and available just like any hooker on Lake Street. Let’s setup a 2 yard pass on 3 and 7, throw underneath and keep the defense guessing. Right. Or …3 and 2…Let’s throw that 60 yard corner diving-out-of-bounds-over-the-shoulder pass. They will think we are running. Right.

Then there is the defensive coach. Wait…we don’t have one. Mr. “Love Machine” hired his buddy Babich. Babich failed, demoted to coordinator (not fired, because he has a contract) and then, Lovie took over the defense. Mr. Lovin’, kissin’ and a huggin’ the meanest bunch guys on a football team. Right. Try to strip the ball, get your “Love” statistic and the runner spins-off and picks up another 15 yards! First down! The last real defensive coach, Rivera, had to eat crow when Mr. Love demanded his “clovier-two” against Manning in the Super Bowl. That is like feeding prime steak to a lion! Manning starting smiling two weeks before the game. He thought, “I love you Lovie!” Big hug.

In my opinion, most NFL players have the same talents. Only the top-of-the-top guys play in the NFL. As little as two or three super players make the difference and coaching pulls it all together. This Bears team is baked. Let’s have a Tupperware party at Lovie’s house and make a bunt cake in their honor.

BTW…Tommy Harris does not have the ability or the courage to tell it like it is. His passive aggressive behavior by not rehabbing after injury, refusing to practice, getting benched and now fighting is just his way of screaming….this is f—ed-up, I’m stuck in this mess, in 2 years my contract will be up and I will be too old to do anything more with my career. Too bad.

Just change the name from the Bears to the Matadors. The way both lines wave people through it would be a more fitting name

This is really getting bad. How the heck can a team have such an upside after acquiring Cutler then go in the tank? The answer: The Bears are who we thought they WEREN’T!!! Geez I thought we were out of this ****. Back in the 90’s I gave up on this team, they simply were not capable of competing week in and week out. I quit making time for the team. I am close now. Like Laurence said they tried different things and nothing worked. Simply stated you cannot win without the lines.
