Boers and Bernstein Show - Written by Bernstein on Friday, January 22, 2010 8:19 - 148 Comments
Announcement Soon?
Hard though it may be, I am trying to put myself in the position of those Bears officials who decide how to release and present news. It seems like Rob Chudzinski’s candidacy has at least a bit of public support, if we define that as only the absence of outright ridicule. But if his hiring would be seen as a positive, the worst time to announce it would be on a Friday (and the opening of SoxFest).
So the Bears situation could be a litmus test for how they, themselves, perceive the news. Be aware of how and when we learn of the hiring for either side of the ball, especially since they may have to hide an in-house promotion to fill the DC job.
As for the Sox, this has all the makings of a Crazy Ozzie season. He seems energized by the NL-style roster and ready to manage actively, taking advantage of versatility and moving parts. So that means he and his decisions will be in focus all year, and he will threaten to quit at least twice.
Easy to look at the remainder of this Bulls road trip and forecast an o-fer. But — as I said before the season tipped off — this team will both lose games it shouldn’t and win games it shouldn’t, so we’ll see if that applies here after the first two games of the stretch fit the former category.
Goaltender controversy, Hawks fans? The debate is on. Can you win the Stanley Cup leaning on a rookie who is not Patrick Roy or Ken Dryden?

The Bulls season has been as irritating as any I can remember. No, they weren’t supposed to be that good but if you look at some of the losses this team has put together, along with the spate of inept decisions by general management, it’ s the kind of season when you question your loyalties.
After all, they’re not going anywhere and the worse they do, the less appealing they are to the treasured free agent class this summer.
Jon, Montgomery
yes dan, the hawks can win with niemi, and they have so far, in my opinion, he can be the everyday starter, he’s only lost 4 games this season, he has a GAA of over .920, and he has 4 shutouts, this kid is ready, i think the only reason he’s not getting the majority of the starts in net, is because huet has to be run out there to earn the massive contract, and it’s sad, because huet isn’t the guy, niemi hasn’t let the hawks down yet, and the team chemistry on the ice is better when niemi is starting.
Jon, Montgomery
sorry, meant to say save percentage of over .920, and then his GAA is 1.85
a goals against average of .920 would be terrible, haha.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
It has often been said that even worse than hatred is indifference.
I don’t hate The Bulls…I hope for them to do well.
But this season I have essentially been indifferent, unable to watch more than a few minutes here and there. They are blah, and GARPAX/VDN have them on a treadmill to oblivion (to borrow from Fred Allen).
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Maybe Mike Tyson could put The Bulls onto a treadmill to Bolivia?

Keep giving the McClaskey family free publicity and advertising Bernstein and now you know why they just piss in your cornflakes every morning. Two paragraphs??!! On the fumbling and bumbling of the coaching staff? The sooner all start ignoring this joke the sooner you start getting some action in the right directions and the first would be not kicking the face of their passionate fans.
Well the goaltending. LH was on all that last night. Dont know if anyone touched on it but i think the hawks are trying showcase Huet and hopes a sucker would take him. The only explanation i can find looking at who and where he starts vs NIemi. Your “number 1″ going against Ott,CBJ, Moe Larry Curly and your backup going against the likes of Pitt,Van,Det, etc on the road?.. just a hunch
pimp
if niemi plays everyday those numbers will come down after the game last night you will see huet play well the next few starts he gets huets problem is between his ears also he looks slow
BVEL
Actually a GAA of .920 would mean he gives up less than a goal a game, so I take a .92GAA!!! hahahahahaha
6 points down after the first half of the trip…. Here were my thoughts before the trip started on Jan 15…
“Columbus(W), Red Wings (W/SOL), Ottawa(W), Flames(W, barely .500 at home), Canucks(L/SOL), Oilers(W), Sharks(L), Hurricanes(W)….. Prediction = 5-1-2 or 5-2-1…..take 11/12 of 16 points……”
I had predicted them at 3-0-1 or 4-0-0, so 3-1-0 isn’t bad really, now lets look at the 2nd half of the trip…. The Canucks will be a battle and if we can steal a point I will take it, the oilers are bad so thats a W, I think if we can get off to an early lead against SJ we can win one, but if we get a point I am happy, and Carolina is a W….. worst case I am predicting 5-3-0, better case 5-2-1, best case 6-2. We should have at least 10 possibly 12 points from this trip.
I also think every day Niemi plays well in goal might actually mess with the psychi of one Cristobal Huet (pronounced hyoo-wit in NHL 10). If you think about it, all we ask our goaltenders to do is face 20-25 shots per game and if Huet keeps on giving up 3+ goals per like he has lately, isn’t Niemi the choice in goal then?
Chris in Scottsdale
The Bulls weren’t supposed to be good, but wouldn’t an improvement of some sort have been a reasonable expectation?
Now with word that John Salmons is considered the second most underrated NBA player by his peers, will we see him try and show off to the fans, who apparently don’t appreciate his greatness? Good lord.
From the top on down, they need to gut the organization, or they’ll end up wasting D-Rose. If I’m a veteran player just looking for one last big paycheck (where have you gone, Derrick Coleman?), I’m telling my agent that his commission is doubled if he can get a deal done in Chicago.
Jon, Montgomery
yeah, i guess you’re right about the GAA, haha.
mac guarantees that niemi will start saturday night, which is what i’m hopeful for as well, but then again mac has been wrong before, like when he said the hawks were guaranteed to win in ottawa, yeehe.
but i’m on team niemi, and team conan, i would like to hear from someone on the other team and tell me why both huet and leno are so deserving, because i don’t think they deserve anything one bit.
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
It shouldn’t matter who the right guy is “on paper.” It should be whoever steps-up and wins the job. Niemi is getting an opportunity, and right now he is making the most of it by performing better. A competition between Huet and Niemi isn’t a bad thing. Its all about the playoffs and you want the hottest goal tender in goal going into the post season, right? So better to sort it out now.
Jon, Montgomery
mac and spiegel are suggesting that somebody get a T-shirt manufacturer to start making “TEAM NIEMI” & “PRO-ANNTI” T-shirts.
famous grouse
I know few if any care about basketball, especially the Bulls the way we care about football and baseball and now hockey again (except Bernsie) but shouldn’t something be done or at least be some outrage over Bulls management. John Paxson single handedly has made Jerry Krause look like a genius. Since Pax took over the club he’s made some of the worse b-ball decisions in history. I used to enjoy watching some games from time to time and always followed the scores but i can’t even tell you who starts anymore. There not fun bad or anything, they just exist. Is anyone watching?
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
I stopped watching the Bulls in the beginning of December when they lost at HOME to the 1-19 Nets. Vinny has no clue what he is doing, and that is Paxson’s fault for hiring a coach with no experience.
General Soreness
I can’t stand the Booyah network. All week long they have been making their predictions for this weekends championship games and I don’t think I’ve seen 1 analyst pick the Colts over NY. This NY bias is the reason why I can’t watch First Take or Mike & Mike. I know that the Jets have a good D but the Colts would’ve won that last meeting easily if they didn’t pull their starters. The Colts D will stop the run and force that rookie to make some costly mistakes.
The General’s predictions:
Colts 31 Jets 17
Vikings 34 Saints 24
That would make for a great Superbowl starring two of the greatest QBs in history.
General Soreness
Grouse…Pax doesn’t make Krause look like a genius, Krause made himself look good and I think he was a great GM.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
On the mothership Booyah website, their panel of “experts” all picked The Colts (except for Adam Schefter who is from Lon Guyland and picked the Jets). About 2/3 of them picked The Saints.
Jon, Montgomery
i watch the bulls, just to know whats going on so i can discuss it with people the next day, it’s very painful to watch, but i figure it’s a duty to keep up with all chicago sports, the only good things on the bulls are Noah, D.Rose, and maybe the Taj Mahal is a coming up player to look forward too. but they should have fired vinny a long time ago, he’s a nice guy, but he’s terrible at coaching, i think the bulls current front office is one of the worst in the league, i’ve never seen such bad decisions made while trying to rebuild a franchise. and as far as the summer is concerned, i think the bulls would be lucky to snag a joe johnson, lebron is gonna be with cleveland or new york, wade is staying put, and bosh probably will go to miami to play with wade, a guy the bulls could get is amar’e stoudamire, but then you think, if he didn’t come here last year, why would he come now? especially if the phoenix suns continue their surprising play this season, he might want to re-sign with them.
the bulls will probably get a 7 or 8 seed for the playoffs, but it won’t mean anything, they’ll go down to whoever they play in that 1st round, whether it’s boston, cleveland, or orlando, and the bulls will build off that and have another mediocre season after this one.
to me it looks like it’s pretty much the same thing for a long time, and they’ll continue to remain in what danny B calls NBA hell.
General Soreness
I haven’t been on the website, Chet. I am glad to know that some of those dudes are using their brains. The Colts will control that game from the start.
General Soreness
I sure hope that the Sox do not feel the need to bring back Thome. They have a platoon of DHs already and do not need Thome’s base clogging or double plays. We have Konerko to do those things.
Jon, Montgomery
i think the colts are gonna kick rex ryan’s ball in sunday, the booyas are biased, smart people don’t take what they say as reality, their shows have become patroits in the fall, celtics in the winter, and red sox in the summer, and of course they love new york teams too, and does anybody know about their city oriented websites? they have espn, dallas, chicago, los angeles, and boston, which boston is redundant to me, because they just re-hash the stuff they have on their main website.
anyway, i’m taking the colts and the favre-kings to go to the super bowl.
Jon, Montgomery
the sox are in need of legit DH, but not a slow one like thome, i don’t want the rotating DH, ozzie has said that’s what it’s going to be, but kenny does as he pleases, just like when he aquired alex rios without telling ozzie, i wouldn’t be surprised if they announce sometime during soxfest that they’ve signed jim thome.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
One of the papers today (forget which of the two) quoted Ozzie that Thome will NOT be back with The Sox.
Jon, Montgomery
by the way, i said the colts would kick rex ryan’s ball in, that was a typo, but maybe rex only has one ball, haha.

Niemi played great last night. That win took a team effort… especially in the third period cos Calgary came out hard and didn’t stop during the last 20 minutes. Personally after watching Niemi play last night I think he’ll get the next few starts in net. Right now I think the #1 goalie slot is Niemi’s to lose. Huet had 4 games in a row of 4 or more goals. He seems to be slipping back into some bad habits while Niemi keeps getting more consistent with his strong play. Vancouver is gonna be a tough test. The Sedin Sisters are playing some good hockey and Canucks have some toughness that can also play in Rypien, Bieska and Hordichuk. ‘Hawks have a day to rest up so that game should be a dandy!
Jon, Montgomery
by the way, ozzie is on the danny mac show right now,
Jon, Montgomery
ozzie says fans are used to seeing guys like thome in the lineup since 2000, so he says that fans are going to have to adjust to this new younger athletic lineup.
Jon, Montgomery
ozzie also suggests that this year’s pitching rotation is BETTER than the 05 rotation.
Jon, Montgomery
i just looked up niemi’s stats to see if is really a rookie, and i saw in 08-09 that he was brought up to play with the blackhawks, he played 8 games, he was 6-1-1, with 3 shutouts! so really he has never let the hawks down.
Caller of the show
There really isn’t much out there when it comes to pop for the Sox. But I wouldn’t mind them going after Mike Jacobs of the Royals. He had 19 HRs last year and 32 the year before in FLA. He is 29 and could be cheap while rotating with Paulie at 1B/DH. He is a big guy and left handed that could hit in the Cell for power and you would have a little bit more options then going with a 39 year old Thome who can’t play 1B and may have a body part fall off soon. OBP sucks but they need guys who can hit the three run homer.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Jacobs is also awful at 1B.
famous grouse
Their’s a chance the Sox pitching will be as good as we’ve seen in a long long time. If things go well Buerle might be the #4 man by midway thru and i mean that in a positive way. I’m not real sold on dh by comittee just because i don’t think Andruw Jones has anything left, I HOPE I’M WRONG but Kotsay’s ok . It will be nice to see people scoring from first on less than 3 hits. Who knows what the ceiling on Beckham will be, after listening to him this morning he’s not lacking confidence, i think he could end up with Mark Grace like #’s and i’d be real happy. They need to put Cora back at 3rd base coach though with all the running they expect.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
I agree that the pitching could really be special…if The Sox can avoid injuries 2010 could be a blast.
famous grouse
Hey Caller i think the Sox made a big mistake when they let Brandon Allen go, but i think there plan is to groom Viciedo for Paulie’s spot. We might see him up midway thru or Flowers if they get hot in minors.
Jon, Montgomery
paruch just said in the update that thome and the minnesota twins may have a deal in place for a signing as early as today.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Great place for Thome…lotsa deer huntin’ and The Mayo Clinic is nearby for his back!
Jon, Montgomery
that move wouldn’t make any sense, kubel and cuddyer have been the DH’s for the twins over the past few years, to take one of those bats out of the lineup to put in a slow jim thome woldn’t make any sense, unless thome is coming off the bench, which in his career as we all know that thome is a terrible pinch hitter, hmmmmmmmm?
Jon, Montgomery
if the twins could figure out how to fit thome in the lineup, look at this lefty power with their new short-porch in right rield, OMG.
morneau,
mauer,
kubel,
thome,
that would be fearful
Caller of the show
Well if Jacobs is not an option then they may want to take a flyer on Blalock (even though he hasn’t been good since the juicy era). There really is nothing out there. All the free agents are either old, bad or a combination of both. At this point they may want to even re access their stance on JD and just have him as a DH. I think if JD is a DH it can save his legs and he won’t go into the 2nd half spiral. There is way too many questions in the power. I couldn’t give you a player that I can guarantee to hit over 30 HRs this year, which is scary when they play at Cell. I except Carlos to have a good comeback year but he has no track record.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
I’d also like to see JD as the DH.
What I do not want to see…it burns my eyes and makes me want to vomit…is the photoshopped photo of B&B’s heads superimposed atop bikini babe bodies on the Score’s main webpage. Barf!
Caller of the show
Grouse, I hope Viciedo(20) and Flowers(23) are not busts. They are still very young but I really don’t see any impact for at least 2 years. I could be wrong though.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
I would also take a flyer on Mike Lowell.
If the Red Sox would give the White Sox the same deal as they were going to give The Rangers, it’d be worth a shot…they pick up almost all of his salary and dump him for a long-shot prospect.
If Lowell’s thumb heals, he could DH and back-up 1B and 3B.
Jon, Montgomery
yeah chet, but jermaine has made it very clear what he want’s and the white sox are not going to give him that, dye has said he want’s to play the right field as a starter for a team this season, he made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a DH on any team, also that he doesn’t want to be the 4th outfielder, so as far as i’m concerned, let mr. specific get what he wants somewhere else with another team.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
A couple of times each day I check the Twitter column on the Booyah MLB page.
Usually they have info from Buster Olney and the others as to who is looking at who, which team signed who for how much etc.
Then every so often Chris Singleton will Tweet about what he had for lunch or what movie he saw.
It is really funny in context.
He seems like a nice guy but is so out of his league as a Booyah “insider”.
Now I get why Farmeo just didn’t mesh with CS.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
The market is now dictating what JD can get, and if DH with The Sox is his best option (with backing-up RF), that’s a win-win I think.
Jon, Montgomery

Regarding the B&Bs photo on the main page….the definition of Butterface. I always thought Lowell was older but he will be 36 next month. He is ok, I just feel like has a lot of miles. I loved Dan’s idea on getting Adam Dunn, last year. He is only 30 and I think could hit 50 at the cell. They always seem to want to cut salary and he is on the last year of a deal with a team he will probably not resign with.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Maybe 2011 for Dunn, but I am in DC a lot and Dunn is one of the twin “faces” of The Nationals…all their ads feature him and Zimmerman. The Nationals are working on getting their $hit together and have pumped up their payroll.

I am a little surprised by Terry’s comments about McNeil. For a while, I thought he was being merely tongue-in-cheek, but by bringing up or implying that McNeil was mooching at the event was strange. He’s never seen warm in the cross-talk with McNeil.
It’s curious…
Any thoughts?
They’ve already had to put to rest rumors about the two not getting along, or jealousy on the air.
famous grouse
Does anyone besides me think the scores going to be saying Feb.18th, that we better hurry tickets are going fast for the B&B roast. I still would like to hear next time Terry takes a vacation, Steve Dahl fill in for him. I think it would be alot funnier and if any sports news breaks Dahl could always say i heard that from my guy earlier i just couldn’t say it on the air. Any truth to the rumor that pix of Dan is from his college days and not super imposed.
Caller of the show
The thing between the shows is funny. They try to act cordial but you can tell B&B think Macs show is just a meatball show. Which it is, with the parody songs, Chet Coppock like banter, and the unwitty humor. B&B don’t cross the line because they are trying to play nice. I think as you get older, you have no time for the things that annoy you. It feels like this is the case for Terry. Mac’s shtick has never changed and as Dan said, the Danny Mac and Spiegel Show is the 1993 show of the year. Spiegel also seems to have a little inferiority complex during the crosstalk with Dan. This would have been the perfect show between Murph & Fred and the Wise Guys back in the day when passion, fire, polish sausage, and Zubazs were the words of the day.

Guys, did you hear about the 76ers’ Allen Iverson getting voted in to next month’s NBA All-Star Game by the fans? This despite the fact Iverson flirted with retirement and had only played 19 games with Philadelphia. I think it’s a farce that the fans voted him in when many thought A.I. was done.
With the Cavaliers’ Mo Williams likely sidelined with a sprained left shoulder, I read on the Trib’s Web site that the Bulls’ Derrick Rose could very well be among those picked for the February 14th All-Star Game in Dallas at the new Cowboys Stadium. As much as I would like to see Rose get selected, his teammate with the funky hair, Joakim Noah, is more deserving. Joakim has worked his butt off, and has posted quite a few double-doubles in points & rebounds this season, in spite of the Bulls’ uneven and maddeningly inconsistent record. I can’t find another big man who has been better other than the Magic’s Dwight Howard in the Eastern Conference. Have a great weekend, guys.

Again, McNiel is a clown during the Ozzie interview just like how he was with Jim Hendry. No class ***!
Thank God for Spiegle….. Question…. Why doesn’t B&B ever interview top players or coaches in Chicago is it because they are hated so much?? Bernsteins is great at asking the key questions everyone knows this but he never gets the high profile atheletes or coaches. Why is that???

See, what I’m talking about? Why does Boers resent McNiel?
I like both of them, but I’m really amazes that Boers can be so dismissive and insincere. He doesn’t appear to like McNeil. And that line about not understanding why McNeil is renting out 8 spots for the roast is bull shet. I’m telling you; listen to the piece yesterday and it’s clear that Boers is lying right now because he doesn’t want to confront McNeil.
One thing for McNeil, he’s never been one to hide. Never. Boers can be a bully on the mic when callers are there, but in person, he’s a sissy.
I know McNeil is sensitive and notice he doesn’t dialogue much after they agree to talk about sports. Also, we have to consider McNeil is supporting these two by bringing friends…I think anyone of us would be humbled and honored by that kind of support…but Boers tries to make light of it.
I Don’t get it…any thoughts?
Someone call the station and call these two out…I can’t because I’m in an office where they can hear my every phone call.

Mac is a joke. He loves to create controversy. This is the world of Mac this is all he did at AM1000 bicker and fight with Harry and the crew. He is not talented enogh to pull that off here. Again…..thank God for Speigle he put the near trainwreck back on the track. Mac is a trainwrech he remained silent like a 10 year old kid what an embarrassment for him!!!! Mac Grow Up.
Shank”em in the Shower
I don’t know how this can be pinned on Mac when Terry raised the issue on the air the day before?
mad as hell fan…
Why does Terry have to like Mac? Terry has made it clear he doesn’t like too many people, and doesn’t have very many friends by choice. He is fine with that. Mac is just poking the bear, it is childish and ridiculous. Terry has hurt Mac’s feelings previously on the transition, and it caught Mac off guard. Mac just needs to let the buddy/buddy BS stop and just do your job. Terry doesn’t want to be your friend……stop crying about it.
mad as hell fan…
What did he say yesterday Shank? I missed it.
Shank”em in the Shower
mad as hell fan: It’s sports talk radio–not military combat, settle down. They were chums as radio partners, and as Mac has mentioned here was there in the hospital when Terry’s children were in with serious ailments (though not revealed).
What was said was that Terry kept repeating he didn’t understand why Mac would buy eight seats for the benefit…like how could you do that. First it was insinuated that he was a mooch or faslely entitled then, it was just confusing when he was informed by Dan Bernstein that he was buying the chairs…
Now, Terry pretends like that wasn’t the case.
You can see how hurt Mac was when he kept repeating “friend” at the end of the broadcast.

Diggler
I think McNeil is very close to the answer when he said that Boers “is approaching 60 but acts like a 12 year old”……anybody who has listed to Boers knows that he is a poorly adjusted adult…a manchild if you will unable to take criticism. He handles criticism like a little boy. When giving criticism he opts for snide, cutting jabs that do nothing to improve the situation and when being criticized he makes excuses for himself and/or argues w/ the person who is criticizing him. It’s poorly-adjusted adult 101. The Boers/Bernstein format is perfect for him since he never has to confront anyone directly…either hang up or have Pitbullstein go after them. Of course a person of this kind wouldn’t want to do the roast….do you think he can tolerate being ripped to shreds……see Chevy Chase roast. He thinks he’s earned the right to have a decision…..riding the coattails of the two most successful sports-talk hosts in the last 18 years….ok. Listening is a skill Terry yes it is, but to use one of your famous sayings…….”have a thought” every now and then and you may earn that right. But you haven’t earned it since I started listening. You suck mister.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
So Diggler, are you buying an entire table?
Marc
Remember that episode of Seinfeld were Jerry finds out that somebody doesn’t like him and he can’t stand it. That’s Mac, he’s trying to force this relationship on Terry because maybe they had one in the past, but Terry doesn’t really seem to want it.
Terry is happy being unhappy. If that makes sense. He’s 60 and really not looking to change things in his life. Terry doesn’t even seem like he wants to the transition segment since Mac started on score.
I also wonder if the fact that Mac is friends with people like Coppock and Greenstein, people Terry hates, and Terry thinks he’s going to bring people like that to the roast.
Diggler
I’d love to watch that old catagelophobe get savagely roasted. I’ll buy a table for myself, Murph, that Minnesota writer, Teddy Greenstein, Ed Sherman, Da-na-na and everyone else who hates that old *******. Let the record show, I do like Bernstein…………(not so fast predictable posters)…..adn that is why I listen to the show.
Likquid Swordz
Me thinks he’s one of the roasters, right after Harangody.
This duo (Dan & Terry) do have that air of hypocrisy about them, but I mainly listen for some sports related thought and the funny sound bytes. Though I kind of wonder about their “sources” at times.
I guess I need to get them int he building and get their basketball/football/baseball information.
steve
Something is weird… I’m listening to the TRANSITION from yesterday.. it seems like the table of 8 is what caused the whole thing..? Who are the eight? Former Score guys?
I guess he thought Mac was mooching?
I think they get the pay day for this event?
Jon, Montgomery
mcneil walked out of the studio on the air, terry dan & matt talked for about five minutes, then mac walked back in, i wonder if rosen told mac if he didn’t put on a happy face and go back into the studio then he would be fired, in the hallway.
Diggler
I don’t know about that Monty Jon – McNeil threw in a couple of words about McGwire when they were having the post Mac-Terry conversation. McNeil had said earlier in the day that Mitch Rosen asked him to try and get Terry excited about the roast which was the motivation for starting transition yesterday with McNeil saying something to the effect – Put me down for a table of 8, or I”m buying a table of 8 – it was clear he was paying for it, not mooching. I hope Boers listens to the playback (which he won’t) – he is the one who didn’t listen to McNeil during transition, didn’t listent to Bernsie yestrday and kept pushing the fact that “he wouldn’t do that” – what the hell wouldn’t he do? Nobody has ever explained that – he should have been made (by McNeil/Speigel) to explain what he wouldn’t do. Wouldn’t mooch a table? Wouldn’t bring a bunch of character assassins? What? I doubt there will be more talk about it though.
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
Boers has no friends? Weird. He seems like such a warm, approachable person.
What gets me about these guys is that when someone does get them on the ropes with a good, thought out point, they either cut them off, talk over them, interrupt, call them names, hang up, or talk in circles to get the caller off their point. I understand that is part of their shtick, but it gets absurd.
If Bernstein were as clever as he thought he was, he would let people get their point across.
Forget Boers. You can’t reason with someone who calls you an idiot if you have a differing point of view.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Well, they certainly got us all chattering about the Roast, huh?
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
Good point Ego. As much as I think these guys are arrogant blowhards, I still listen everyday….until I can’t take them anymore and turn them off. But then I turn them back on the next day. Can’t explain it.

and SHARK, i do think it’s a farce, the NBA all-star game is a popularity contest, all of the fans who loved A.I. back when he had his 1st go-round with philly decided that it would be so cute if iverson was on the all-star team one more time. i respected iverson, and i don’t think it’s his fault that he got voted in, he didn’t ask for all of his fans to vote everyday for him, same thing in the western conference! he didn’t get enough votes to be a starter at the end of the voting, but at the beginning of the season, he was among the leaders in votes, and that guy is tracy mcgrady, he’s played in six games this season, 7-19 shooting, averaging 3.2 points per, if he wasn’t african-american, those numbers wouldn’t even get into the new ‘white players only’ league. i know he has had prior injuries, so maybe he isn’t a fair example.
but back in the eastern conference, derrick rose has certainly out-played iverson, and over time, rose will get on plenty of all-star teams, but does A.I. even deserve to be playing in the league? not really, he hasn’t helped the 76ers at all, he’s just in the league because of the name on his jersey, fans shouldn’t get to vote on who they want in an all-star game, in any sport! MLB especially, because bud selig makes the all-star game matter, whichever league wins the game has home advantage, even though sometimes fans get it right, it shouldn’t be a popularity contest, what i invision it should be, is all off the MLB players should get to vote for players on all other teams in their own league, except for their own team, that way players get to choose who they think can help them win, and that’s the way it should be in every sport. of course no other respective major league decides home field in the world series… but you know what i’m getting at, fans shouldn’t get to vote.
steve
I think what made the Score really good back in the day of North, Murph, B&B is that everyone hated each other. There was drama. I used to love the stories behind the shows better than the shows.
famous grouse
This is the kind of bs that makes me want Bernstein and Steve Dahl. Old disconnected Boers hasn’t added anything to the show in years. We’ve all heard a 100 times people who disagree with Terry get yelled at mercilessly until they hang up. I find it uncomfortable to listen to them when they take calls but still tune in everyday for sports related info and the occasional laugh.
Jon, Montgomery
you saw that on the webcam steve? thanks for clearing that up for me, i didn’t have the webcam on at that point where mac fell silent, thanks.
Jon, Montgomery
hey, couple of things i just found out,
1. joe cowley just tweeted that he saw bobby jenks and that he appears to have lost 25-30 pounds, apparently bobby was working out with giovanni soto and the special diet of chicken & fish.
2. jose contreras has signed with the phillies, pending a physical, (which he might not pass, haha).
3. there is a new poll on the front page, it’s a question of which goalie you want to see the rest of the season for the hawks, antti niemi is currently holding a commanding lead over huet.
pimp
cub kid What gets me about these guys is that when someone does get them on the ropes with a good, thought out point, they either cut them off, talk over them, interrupt, call them names, hang up, or talk in circles to get the caller off their point. I understand that is part of their shtick, but it gets absurd
sounds like murphs old show
Diggler
If WSCR would have played its cards right and North wouldn’t have been so obstinate – you could have an even better lineup
6-9-Mully/Hanley
9-12 North
12-3 McNeil
3-6 B&table for 8
6-9 Murph
Hub, Sour Grapes Stone all contributing along with LoHo, I really do talk like this all the time Zadiman and Beat with an ugly stick Schuster.
Jon, Montgomery
and has anybody seen what the phillies have been doing lately? they said they couldn’t keep halladay and lee for the long term financially, and i agree, but everybody thought they could afford to keep him for this one year only, but the phillies still said they couldn’t afford it, but lately the phils have been dishing out contracts left-and-right, they just gave victorino and blanton huge extensions, talk about lying to your fans, i guess they didn’t want to keep lee for one season and have the best rotation in baseball with a top 3 of hamels halladay and lee. wierd phillies.
Jon, Montgomery
yeah because we all want murph on from 6-9pm to ruin the night.

Has anyone heard who will be some of the “celebrity roasters” . Is it just going to be a bunch of @ss kissing producers. And why would they have a roast for two guys who are such social rejects that they can’t have a caller ever have an opinion other than there own. This actually might be worth going to just to see Boers have a complete meltdown, someone better search him for weapons before allowing him in.
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
It will be all softball jabs. Not a real roast.

Listen, a lot of the plethora of Murph criticisms are spot-on. He did talk over people who disagreed with him….accused anyone disagreeing with him of being a sox fan and was a dinosaur from a production standpoint, but he filled a niche at the radio station. Cubs fans would like to hear discussion of their team without smarmy banter. He was the one person (and maybe North a little bit) that did not follow the baseball coverage playbook on teh score:
1. Set cubs expectations very very high and cover them with a critical/sarcastic tone
2. Set expectations for the Sox medium to low and cover them like a baseball team should be covered.
I listened to Murph so I could hear Cubs baseball discussion is unbiased or biased towards my teaam….the other shows that go to Deep Throat massage Stone for Cubs discussion get: DeRosa is a terrible pickup for 15 million/It was terrible for cubs to get rid of DeRosa…….Not sure what Hendry was thinking getting Marquis/You just can’t believe Hendry would get rid of Marquis…bla bla bla

joe cowley tweets that kenny williams said he doesn’t expect anticipate anything happening over the soxfest weekend, so what i take away from that, is he has a secret or he’s working on something, but he’s not going to announce it at soxfest, because he’s the frekin’ GM! how would he anticipate or not anticipate something happening? because he would know, because he’s the guy that makes the deals, so i think he’s hiding something.
Shank”em in the Shower
It still doesn’t explain what’s going on with these two. Was Boers unhappy when Mac returned? Have they simply grown apart?
No one’s perfect, but it does seem like Mac tries to support Boers and the show, becoming a true fan of the program as he’s insisted he listens all the time and goes to their remotes when he’s not working. It’s interesting that this resentment and bitterness would come out.

jim hendry is the worst gm in town
Jon, Montgomery
mlbtraderumors.com just picked up the jim thome to the twins rumor, they said it was first reported, “by a chicago radio station”, that would be 670 the score! and a team official with the twins has confirmed the interest, it would be sad if thome went to minnesota, now the question is, do we boo or cheer thome when he comes here? i’ll cheer him because the white sox are not offering him a deal when thome wanted to come back here, it wasn’t his fault, thome just wants to play.
Jon, Montgomery
you’re right pimp, but Gar-Pax is getting close.

by the way, does anybody know when the tournament of bad is?

Shank-em – I’d put my money on “grown apart”. If you remember Mac at ESPN, he would rip B&B show quite a bit – not necessarily Terry, but definitely Bernsie. Terry and Dan used to rip Mac quite a bit as well. It appears Terry has not transitioned (npi) well into having his former partner back at teh SCORE. Couple that with some jealousy issues Terry has regarding the other hosts being able to bring up an argument and support it with a well thought out soliloquoy…something that Boers clearly cannot do. Mac is at some sort of crossroads in his life and wants to make nice with everybody – I think he’s playing up the “big brother” aspect of their relationship. He pretty much has said that Terry told him to act like a man at some point in his life (there is that pesky hypocrisy again) and that coupled with the fact they were radio partners makes for a life-long close friendship. Mac’s feelings are clearly unreciprocated by the large, monkey-looking man they call Terry Boers.
Jon, Montgomery
matt thornton on his pitching, and a couple other fan questions, i was disturbed by the question about linebrink, my god, i’m sure glad he’s not a betting man, he would lose his house!
famous grouse
Has anyone ever heard Dan and Terry talk well of anyone on the score, I know there afraid of Jason Goff and LoHo’s like Dan’s little puppy so they don’t make fun of him to much but i’ve heard them rip Mully and Hanley, especially, when they got rated the top morning show. And there’s no love lost with McNeil, Hub, Buffone, OB and Hampton-never to there face but on the air.

connor mcknight just tweeted about kenny responding to what ozzie guillen said,
williams said that he’s a little surprised that ozzie likes the roster as-is, but that he respects his manager’s opinion.
take notice of “little surprised” & “manager’s opinion”.
that can only mean kenny has something he’s working on, because he’s suprised that ozzie likes the roster as-is, that means kenny is still trying to add more pieces, and manager’s opinion means kenny isn’t consulting ozzie on what moves he would make, i take that as kenny has his own opinion, and he’s going to make more moves.
Jon, Montgomery
by the way, it’s official, niemi will start tomorrow night. thank goodness.
SAY MY NAME
my opinion on Brett is that he loves the game. how many of us truly love our jobs and will come to work no matter what? Not that many but he does. how many of us have sat at home and wished we were doing something else? Well he did, he retired (probably was convinced that he should and then thought about it and reversed his decision) and then un-retired. The boo-yahs were the ones that made everyone hate him by always putting his face on the tv and showing him crying when he was at the press conference. Everyone is waitng for him to explode and when he loses a game they will be like “right, we knew it was going to happen”. … my two cents…
SAY MY NAME
on b&b, its always amusing when Hub and Stone disagree with Bernsie and you can tell he is mad. Bernsie will try to make a big point and Hub will say ” I really dont know that you can blame so and so…” its classic. But I remember like 3 yrs ago during the summer (late spring) around 5:30 Laurence had to come on the air to replace someone between B&B and the white sox because there would have been a fight, he said it on the air, something like ” if so and so was here there will be fists flying and we dont want that, I cant name names…” anyone remember anything like that. it had to be around may 2007
Diggler
If I had a nickel for everytime a guest said to Bernsie “That is a great question”, I could go to the roast. I’d really like Hub/Deep Throat Massage Stone to give them a beat-down when they disagree…make them feel completely retarded……that would be more of taking what they dish out.
Those two bastages murdered Hub back in early 2000’s when Hub hosted the **** Jauron show…….something about Hub saying that you cannot have an opinion unless you’ve played/been around the game….Mike North was the only one with the stones to get Hub on and talk it over. Now you would think Hub and Boers/Berns are lifelong friends – a little different when someone smarter than you, tougher than you and more ear piercings than you is sitting across from you in the studio
Say my name – I don’t remember that – my money would be that it was Murph – Murph did night-duty, but I thought it was more in 2005-2006. My creepiest LoHo moment was when he was acting like he and Ginger Zee had a really big announcement (insinuating an engagement or something) – she was supposed to come up from nbc…he kept waiting….and waiting….and waiting – she never came most likely becuase she was as creeped out as all the listeners…..poor loho – comic books and kleenex.

Diggler, why would anyone want to hear North or Murph? It was a great moment in Score history when they were let go! Anyone think Phil Donahue will roast Boers?

I don’t know J in HE – I think for every person that is glad they are off the air, there is a person who would want to hear them. I would like it if North-Bernstein-McNeil and Murphy were at the score – that is my personal preference.
