Hue and Cry
In a period of high unemployement across the country, Halas Hall is offering the jobs nobody seems to want.
Now it turns out that Ravens QB coach Hue Jackson will not interview with the Bears, as the Trib reported early this morning that Jackson backed out of today’s scheduled meeting. They will move on in their increasingly silly search for coordinators, apparently, with Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith in matching pith helmets as they march through the NFL jungle looking for somebody whose name you have never heard.
Or Angelo will relent, and let Smith hire Mike Martz. Or they’ll just promote Mike Tice when they eventually promote Rod Marinelli to the DC spot. You thought their last press conference was pathetic?
Hub Arkush joins us at 5:00 to help make some sense of this.
Another win for the Bulls, despite illness and injury affecting half their available players. Here are the two numbers that tell the story — for me — in the last three games: Derrick Rose has made 35 of his 48 shots from the field, a crazy 73 percent (!). And Tyrus Thomas has played just 22, 24, and 21 minutes. Put simply, their best player has been playing his best, and the guy who screws them up on both ends has not been given the chance to do so.
Still, it would be nice to show off some Tyrus highlights to a potential trade partner. The Aaron Gray/Devin Brown deal may be an indicator of a bigger move to come, and I hope Garpax is not frozen to inaction by recent success.
Ernie Banks wants Sammy Sosa to admit steroid use. That’s fine, but Sosa failed a test administered by MLB in 2003 — he doesn’t have to ”admit” anything.

With the White Panther taking his non-talents elsewhere, is Dan calling the end of white basketball?
Likquid Swordz
Can somebody tell Virginia after she’s done with her oatmeal that she needs to fire people today? Nobody in pro football wants to step up to a coordinator’s job in Chicago…..WOW. Whoever from outside the organization that takes these jobs will be looked at as idiots to take a one year job.
Geez this is a mess
Likquid Swordz
White Panther got traded to the All-American Basketball Alliance last night. He will be an All-Star there.
Spiegel’s Annoying Laugh
Problem is he can’t even play fundamental basketball.

“Geez this is a mess” Yup. swordz. a royal one. and until you all start ignoring them.. it will remain that way Remember the definition of insanity… doing something over and over again and expecting different results.
pimp
the bears made a huge mistake by not cleaning house at years end.
General Soreness
Say it ain’t so!!! The White Panther is gone?!?
Hinrich will be next. I am ok with that though. The only time a white point guard is a good thing is when your sister is dating a point guard (just kidding all my African American friends)!
BVEL
Maybe the bears can take over the late night show on NBC!!!!
What Happened
I bet Ron Turner would like his job back…
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I now understand that Hue Jackson spurned The Bears to take The Raiders job???
OMG, The Bears truly are a laughing-stock.
Likquid Swordz
Bears = good QB, good RB, no WRs
Raiders = No QB, No RB, No WRs
And he chooses Raiders?
We have a new qualifer for Tournament of Bad…..Bears coordinator search….#2 seed?

Bears management is a #1 seed in TofB

Seems there is no love for Lovie.
Everyone at Halas hall has to embarrassed in this job search mess.
Can’t do the players confidence any good either.
But we the fans are used to this stuff aren’t we?

I’ve been saying it for a couple weeks, i believe the Bears are going to make a strong push for N.O.- QB coach Joe Lombardi. If he’s had any influence on Drew Breese he’d be a nice mentor to Cutler. He’s young, probably ok with Tice, grandson of Vince Lombardi so maybe interest in competing against division rival G.B., might work cheap if given some security and comes from an impressive offensive staff. I maybe dreaming that the Bears actually have a plan but i can pretend right! Good Luck Jim Thome, but glad the sox didn’t sign him. Kind of odd that Kenny threw the decision on Ozzie but it’s still the right move in my opinion.
terry’s plastic underpants
So, can someone explain something to me as I’m a basketball ******.
How do we say that Vinny is such a horrible coach and then watch as he does everything we’ve wanted him to in regards to D. Rose? Is he just getting out of the way? Is he actually coaching? Perplexed, I am.
Don’t mind me, I’m just going to go yell at my floral couch.
Ten Foot Midget
“Dr. Turner, I presume?”
famous grouse
hey plastic i’m not much of a basketball man myself, but i was wondering the same thing. Is he finally letting D. Rose take charge at the end of games or is Rose doing it on his own. Did Vinny actually nurture him along or is this a mirage. Garpax has never given his team a big man and they still seem to do ehh ok.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Almost daily I say that The Bulls need a real coach, hence fire VDN.
My sense is that DRose is developing despite VDN not because of VDN.
But for a much more thoughtful analysis of the situation, including credit to VDN, please see the new blog post by Jason.

2 early nominations for Quote of the Year (in no particular order):

I wasn’t able to listen to B&B til 5:00 yesterday but it sure sounded like Terry’s not making nice with McNeil. Did i just miss understand or was i hearing one underhanded shot after another. Could Terry really be that miserable of a man or do you think it’s a radio thing, it almost sounded like Bernsie was getting tired of the baby stuff.

Terry & Dan B.
I heard you guys were talking about this Hue Jackson guy late in yesterday’s show, even before the news earlier this morning that Hue will reportedly take the Offensive Coordinator position with the Oakland Raiders. I’m starting to wonder if newly hired Offensive Line Coach Mike Tice will eventually be named the Bears’ new O.C. with Rod Marinelli reluctantly taking the Defensive Coordinator job for this team. This is beyond embarrassing now, especially if the Raiders’ job is more attractive than the Bears.
As for the Bulls, I wonder if Derrick Rose listened to you guys about taking over this team. It was another unlikely road win, a 98-93 triumph in San Antonio, and Derrick may have secured a spot in the NBA All-Star Game next month in Dallas with his 27 point effort, despite not feeling well. Guys, while the Bulls are still hard to figure on the whole, it would be a big time upset if Rose and/or Joakim Noah aren’t among the Eastern Conference reserves announced Thursday night on TNT. Rose & Noah are definitely deserving of a trip to Dallas in my opinion.
Hawaiian
Exactly Shark, how low have you sunk when a coach has a choice between the Bears and Al Davis and the Raiders and chooses the Raiders. I am looking for the fast forward button so I can go straight to the 2011 (2012 if lockout) season and see a Lovieless Bears. This is beyond a train wreck! It is quickly approaching funny bad.
Iceman (300levelsports.com)
Anybody have any idea the money involved in the deal for Hue. My guess is the Bears offer was low (big suprise) and he figured, I have a choice between two terrible teams but Oakland will pay me more?
Chet’s Inflated Ego
I’ll bet you are right Iceman.
Also with the Al Trainwreck, he would have a shot at Head Coach if Al cans The Cable Guy in the next year or two.

just checking in.
that is to funny to laugh about it, first post was by you chet suggesting the raiders were the laughing stock of the NFL, well that was IRONIC, now wasn’t it? hahaha.
no here are the top 3 laughing stock teams in the NFL as of today,
#3. tampa bay buccaneers, (and i’m ashamed to admit it).
#2. detroit lions, (yeehe).
#1. st. louis rams, (BARF).
and the rams are going to have a top 3 pick in the draft for the 3rd year in a row.
Jon, Montgomery
and all of those teams are in the NFC, anybody else’s opinion on who the worst teams in the NFL would be a fun-bad conversation to talk about.

Jon, Montgomery
wow, i wasn’t using the word d.ick in a vulgar way, i was using it to use somebody first name, wow.
Likquid Swordz
I would say Detroit is fun bad because they having something that resembles a decent QB.
Then Seattle because they have arguably the best set of LB in the league with Tatupu, Leroy Hill, Aaron Curry, and David Hawthorne, once they dump Hasslebeck they could be a contender in less than 3 yrs.
Number 3 would be Washington because Plastic Face will be SOL with that bum as the owner.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
automatic censor Jon.
Yes, my first post is very sadly ironic about The Bears OC.
Sad.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
I also agree with ls…that Old Plastic Face will have an impossible burden to overcome with Dan Snyder (who is a junior Al Davis without any football knowledge).
His only shot is to draft the next John Elway, otherwise he will go 7-9, 8-8, 6-10, etc. etc.
Jon, Montgomery
everybody’s seen kentucky’s john wall right? that kid is awesome, he may be better than chris paul when all is said and done, but i just feel terrible for him, because he’s going to get drafted by the new jersey nets, poor young man.

yeah nady is bad, he’s going to repclace reed mantle as the 4th outfielder, and before he even gets a chance, he’ll be injured in spring training, and he’ll be out for 3 months.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
Bad.
Better upside than Reed Mantle as 4th OF…if his health is recovered.
Bad.
So, he might suck less than the other guy…is that marginal improvement or an upgrade?
Bad.
dave m.
where’s my Cub Kid at?
Chris in Scottsdale
I’ll take the Nady signing. It’s not what I’d be hoping for, but if healthy, Nady is better than the remainder of OF’s on the free agent market at this point. They’re grasping at straws right now anyways.
Chet’s Inflated Ego
One straw at which they grasped has gone to Oakland…Ben Sheets for one-year 10M.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/cbs-reacts-to-controversy-over-tim-tebow-ad.html
i have no problems with the tebow ad although i would find it humorous to hear DB’s take on it. what i don’t have a problem with is uptights need to get a grip. We do have a first admendment and if an antiabortion group wants to spend 2 million for 30 seconds of prime tv time, God bless you, it’s america!!! That is my position on the first admendment, not abortion, of which i think is so situational that an all or nothing viewpoint o is rather blindsided.
What i have a problem with is, Tim Tebow presents himself soooooooooooooo rightously and he is as hypocritical as tiger woods. I am guessing here, but if you have seen pictures of his elleged girlfriend, there is no way, AND THE ROCK SAYS NO WAY he is a v-dog. If he hasn’t hit that, than he is more than human and has a will of stone, and she has convictions that are darned near impossible in this day and age. And if i am wrong in my assumptions, then i should get what i have coming to me because my faith tells me not to judge, but the evidence of his hypocrisy is pretty much stacked against him.
Jon, Montgomery
wow, what’s the 2nd biggest d-bag in the world, (after brett favre of course), going to do next, anti-abortion commercial.

http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/01/ihsa-no-athletes-tested-positive-for-peds.html
this is just stupid. What the ihsa legally can’t take into account is that Teens rule the internet and probably know how to use it better than anybody. If someone can find a litney of masking agents without the use of a professional trainer it’s a teenager. and as DB would point out, HGH probably wasn’t being tested for.

i really hope the hawks win tonight and the sharks lose, because then there would be only two points seperating those teams in the point standings. sharks are in ottawa, where the hawks lost earlier on the road-trip, and remember, goalie controversy continues, as huet starts in net tonight in edmonton

i’m just saying it’s a different feel in canada, when i’m watching on TV it always seems like bad quality TV feed, usually the connection goes out, i’ve never been to an arena in canada, so i guess i shouldn’t be talking about things i don’t know about, i was just saying it’s different from the way the hawks do things at the UC, so i guess i don’t like these canadien road trips just because it’s different to me.
Jon, Montgomery
from what i’m used to with the hawks

When they show the games on TSN, it picture quality is comparable to Booyah. I think the border-crossing feed is absolutley horrible.

Am the only one not comfortable that D-Rose is playing great b/c his numbers offensively are the result of a shooting % that he cannot possibly (or even remotely) sustain? When the hot streak ends, I feel it’s right back to 18 pts and 5-7 asst per game….bluh.
Likquid Swordz

what kind of football games do you get on your TV swordz? is it all CFL? or do you have FOX & CBS to be able to watch game of the week in NFL, or maybe you have direcTV with sunday ticket? cuz that sucks if you don’t get to watch any NFL on sundays
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
I’m here dave m. Just jumping in — what you got for me?
Likquid Swordz
I see every CFL game, plus I get a chance to pick from a wider variety of NFL games. Instead of the one game at 12 and the two at 3….I get two at 12 and possibly 5 at 3 (if you have digital cable). I see all the Sunday and Monday night games, plus the games on NFL Network
The cable company here gets feeds from Spokane, WA, Rochester, NY, and Detroit. Plus I get WGN superstation and TBS.

George Oscar Bluth
Chet, welcome to the life of a Sox fan. Every year, we have to hope and pray that about 15 uncertainties ALL fall our way, and that no other ’sure bets’ end up being uncertainties in addition.
Fun, aint it?
Jon, Montgomery
i’m a sox fan, and i want to know about the 15 uncertainties.
dave m.
has anyone noticed how far the b&b show has dipped in the last few months? boy,oh boy. mr. bores isn’t funny in the least and i wouldn’t let him read any copy at all.
Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)
I can’t speak for all the cub fans, dave m. I can only speak for myself.
I’ve kept my expectations relatively low for the last few years. Getting swept in back-to-back postseasons, tends to do that to you. I had very low expectations going into last season. I hated the Bradley acquisition, among other concerns. I wasn’t sold on them winning the Central, unlike many, including B & B.
There are numerous question marks and possible holes going into this season. No question. But, I’m still a fan. No matter how much I try to temper my excitement, or how much I’m reminded of the previous season’s failures, I still find myself getting fired up in the spring. I’d say many of us have that in common, no matter the team we root for. I don’t think its exclusive to Cub fans.
George Oscar Bluth
Jon, you’d agree, wouldn’t you, that usually we get the “let’s hope ALL goes like _________” sales pitch from our GM?
Examples (from last year):
-Colon as a productive 5th
-Contreras as a productive anything
-Fat Thome staying healthy
-Young guys who start performing at a high level
-Pods not ruining everything
-YOung guys making the most optimistic progress from last year
This Year:
-Rios
-Q
-Bacon at 2B
-Teahen at 3B again
-Teahen hitting .275 and over 20 homers
-Ramirez pulling his head out of his cakeshoot defensively
-Pierre being good in the AL
-Jenks bouncing back
-Putz being healthy and throwing it like he used to
That’s the only thing I can say about the Yankees’ huge salary numbers — at least they expand the margin of error a bit so that not everything has to click at once for them to win.
meesohawnee
Chet’s Ego.. Have been to Montreal Bell Centre.. THAT is a sports experience like no other!! Canadian women love Americans?? Hmmm. Sure not in Quebec. They are not quite fond of arrogant cultures like ours. Lets just put it this way about Canada.. How many Canadian banks have ya heard fail. ??

I do believe getting hired by the Chicago Bears in 2010 will likely make the 2010 Tournament of Bad. Along with Mark McGuire’s apparent knowledge of what steroids do (help baseball players hit more home runs).

Cub Kid (300levelsports.com)

Meesohawnee, I wasn’t implying Quebec was arrogant for asking (nicely) its people to speak French. And no, I’ve never been up there. I’ve heard it is beautiful and I’m sure the people are great.
I just found it ironic that you said the people in Quebec, which we both agree have a mostly French influence, find us Americans arrogant. I have been to France, and witnessed first hand that the elitist attitude they are notorious for, is much deserved. It’s that old pot-kettle thing.
I guess my issue is more with someone labeling America as you did — arrogant, ignorant, and that everything is “for sale.” I’m from the John Rich school of: “If you don’t love this country, then why don’t you get the hell out!”
Just rubbed me the wrong the way, that’s all. I’m just grateful we have the luxury and freedom to express our differing opinions and agree to disagree.

and i’m sorry, in an earlier post i said i hope the sharks lose tonight, that was incorrect on my part the sharks don’t play tonight, i mis-read the schedule, they have 5 days off between their last game on saturday and the game on thursday, the big one with the hawks, so depending on what the hawks do, they either gain ground or stay put, so best case senario, hawks pick up 2 points, worst case senario, they stay put at 4 points back. sorry for the bad research. You are so right on Cub kidd. Well said. Well written!!. I still dont understand the tie in to French as in the country to the language spoken in Quebec but your point was well taken. Good job!
As far as the patriotism.. glad you have the fire and the passion like da Coach.but ya know what. Take that energy and how i rubbed ya the wrong way and get enraged for example how some bankers are paying themselves 140 billion in bonuses on YOUR dime..Do you think they care about America? THAT should rub ya the wrong way.! Dont worry about lil ole me.. Im nothing in the grand “scheme”,, like Lovie says..
And sorry.. but yes. we are a pretty arrogant, ignorant society.. but hey,, when many of us are more concerned with who won American Idol or what an athlete Tweets rather than the fact the country is bankrupt what do you expect?? Does that make us bad people.? No. Were actually one of the more compassionate societies. We also are blessed to have discussions on this board where everyone has an opinion and we all learn from it.. Thanks for your input. Keep up the great posts
Oh and yes America IS for sale.. Just do some research on the Supreme Court’s little “gem” last week.

RIP Wild Bill. Your raspy voice will surely be missed.

Cutler: “You can’t make me run that old man!”
Jackman: “Oh yeah?” (pops out the wolverine claws under Cutler’s chin ready to shove them upward).
